IPL Pigmentation Removal
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is an effective solution for removing unwanted
pigmentation such as sun spots (actinic bronzing), age spots, and freckles. By targeting and
breaking down excess pigment in the skin, IPL promotes a clearer, more even complexion.
This non-invasive treatment also stimulates collagen production, improving skin texture while
reducing the appearance of discoloration. With minimal downtime, IPL pigmentation removal
provides long-lasting results for a rejuvenated, radiant appearance. 3-4 treatments are
required for optimal results.

F.A.Q.
What is IPL and what does it treat?
IPL uses broad-spectrum light to target and break down pigment cells in the skin, improving conditions like actinic bronzing, age spots, and skin discoloration.

How many treatments are needed?
Most people see significant improvement after a course of 3-6 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Maintenance treatments may be needed yearly to sustain results if sun exposure and lack of sunscreen use is present.

What does the treatment feel like?
You might feel a slight tingling or snapping sensation, like a rubber band, as the light pulses are delivered.
At Edit our IPL head as in-built sapphire cooling to minimise discomfort.

What are the potential side effects and downtime?
Common side effects can include temporary redness, which subsides after a few hours.
Pigmented areas will darken initially over 48 hours, but then these areas come to the surface and slough off revealing clearer skin beneath. There is minimal downtime and you can resume normal activities immediately after the treatment.

What are the precautions before and after treatment?
Avoid sun exposure 4 weeks before and after treatment. 50+ Broad Spectrum sunscreen is recommended after treatments. Inform your technician about any skin conditions or medications you are currently taking including topical medications. Use gentle cleansers and moisturisers, and avoid harsh skincare products for at least a week after treatment.

Who is not a good candidate for IPL?
People with darker skin tones (darker Fitzpatrick 4 skin types to a Fitzpatrick 6), those taking Accutane, Efudex or Dovonex. Those with a history or family history of Melanoma. A consultation with a qualified professional is crucial to determine if IPL is right for you.
