Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes redness, visible blood vessels, and flare-ups of inflammation, often affecting the face. At Edit IPL and Laser Clinic, we use advanced IPL therapy to target and reduce redness, calm inflammation, and improve overall skin tone. By addressing the underlying vascular concerns, our treatments help restore a clearer, more balanced complexion.

F.A.Q.

How does IPL work for rosacea?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses pulses of light to target and heat the red pigment (hemoglobin) in blood vessels, causing them to seal and reduce their visibility. This can lead to a reduction in redness, flushing, and the appearance of broken capillaries associated with rosacea. IPL therapy can also help reduce inflammation and other symptoms of rosacea, such as skin sensitivity and pimples.

How many treatments are usually needed?

Most people see significant improvement after 1-3 IPL treatments. An initial course of 3-6 treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart, is often recommended for optimal results. Maintenance treatments may be needed every 6 months to 2 years to maintain the effects, as rosacea is a chronic condition. The number of sessions needed varies depending on the severity of rosacea and individual response to treatment.

What can I expect during and after treatment?

During treatment: you may feel a slight stinging or burning sensation, similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. At Edit we use an IPL head with an in-built sapphire cooling system to minimise discomfort. After treatment: the treated area may appear slightly red or swollen, but this usually subsides within a few hours. You can typically resume normal activities immediately after treatment. Avoid sun exposure in the days and weeks before and after treatment. 50+ Broad Spectrum sunscreen is a must before and after treatment.

Are the results long-lasting?

IPL treatments can provide long-lasting results, but rosacea is a chronic condition, and symptoms may return over time. Maintenance treatments may be needed to continue enjoying the results. Sun protection practices are important for maintaining results.

Are there any alternatives to IPL?

Rosacea responds best to a combination of treatments, including IPL, laser treatments, appropriate skincare products, and medical treatments like topical creams or oral medications. Avoiding rosacea triggers and keeping the skin clean and moisturized are also important. Larger blood vessels that are resistant to IPL therapy may respond well to laser treatment (we have this available at Edit).

Is IPL treatment safe?

IPL treatments are generally considered safe when performed by a trained and experienced practitioner.

It's important to choose a reputable clinic or practitioner with experience in IPL therapy.
